For hundreds of thousands of people all over the country, this is allergy season. Allergies can be miserable, especially if your allergens find their way into your bedroom and interrupt your sleep. Luckily, there are ways to reduce the amount of allergens in your home. Some are easy enough that you can do them immediately, while others take a little more planning and time.
A lot of allergen reduction is about keeping things tidy and clutter-free. Knick-knacks, toys, and even books are all notorious dust collectors. You should dust them regularly or store them somewhere where they won’t collect so much dust. When you do your dusting, go with a damp cloth rather than a feather duster, which does little more than scatter dust around the room.
If allergies are a serious concern for you, it’s a good idea to switch to all washable bedding, nothing feathered. You should wash this bedding once a week, in addition to your pillows. Keeping pets out of the bedroom or, at least, off the bed is also a good idea. If you can’t bring yourself to do that, giving them a weekly bath will help.
