The easiest way to infuse a basement with a little coziness and character is with paint. If your basement gets natural light like a walkout basement, for example, a rich, dark color scheme will offset the light and make the place feel warm and cozy. Basements are naturally cooler than the rest of the house, so warm colors like yellow can also be a great choice. If you want to go with a darker scheme in a room with only an egress window, though, you should include sconces and additional lighting sources to keep it from feeling too dark. One issue with a basement bedroom is overhead sound. If that’s the case, you can install fiberglass insulation between the ceiling joists and finish the ceiling to keep the noise to a minimum.
