Elegant. Magical. Futuristic. These are the qualities people associate with the Star Wars films. Reddit user Ghostfaceace was able to incorporate these qualities into his latest DIY project that has gone viral. He paid homage to the films by recreating the classic Landspeeder owned by Luke Skywalker. Floating platform beds are all the rage in modern bedrooms. They have an elegant and magical appeal that makes it appear as if the bed is floating in mid-air. When lit from underneath using LED lighting, they take on a futuristic look that compliments minimalist and modern designs. Therefore they were the perfect choice for a Landspeeder bed.

Ghostfaceace designs and builds houses for a living so this project was right up his alley. According to him, the project took about a total of 10 hours over a period of 2 weeks. Costs included LED lighting, paint, medium-density fibreboard, timber, screws, and pins. He estimates the cost to be around 100 Euros, which translates to about $112 US. Not bad at all. The LED lighting has 20 different colors that can be switched via remote control, which is very handy for creating mood lighting (READ MORE: Smart Devices For Your Bedroom).
The hard part was bringing it up the stairs because according to Ghostfaceace, the bed was very heavy. The bed isn’t mounted to the wall but sits atop a base that keeps it steady. The floating look is achieved by creating enough space between the edge of the bed and the edge of the base. It is the same technique that gives floating platform beds their distinctive look. The next step for the project will be adding a desert backdrop to complete the overall theme of the bedroom. We can’t wait to see how it turns out!
