Combining bedroom and bathroom spaces was a hot trend in 2015. Foregoing the traditional look of a master suite, these designs break down the walls between the bedroom and bathroom to create a cohesive and functional design. At first glance they can make people uncomfortable because they aren’t used to the idea. They might think it’s gross and impractical. But after a while it’s hard not to appreciate their simple beauty and creative energy. It takes a lot of thought and planning to combine these two spaces into one.
The look of a modern bedroom is complimented perfectly by the look of a modern bathroom. The clean lines and solid surfaces of a platform bed go very well with the sleek and minimalist appeal of a modern glass enclosed shower. Instead of walls, it’s common to use floor to ceiling glass panels and doors. This creates a division of space while still letting it feel connected. For the sake of privacy, frosted glass works well but some rooms do without it. This is more of a personal preference.
Designing one room is hard enough without having to do multiple at the same time. Especially when it comes to bathrooms where the type of materials matter. If you choose to go this route, take your time and look for pieces that match. Such as a nightstand that matches the bathroom vanity. Or a bathtub that matches the bed frame. Remember the principles of open space design to ensure that the room flows and feels inviting.
